Due to the prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, Odisha is likely to experience hotter days and humid nights. Especially, the coastal and interior parts of Odisha are likely to witness a surge in the mercury level by three to five degree Celsius than the normal level.
As per the prediction by the Regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C at many places over the districts of Odisha and likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over the districts of the state for the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, yellow warning for heat wave conditions has been issued for several districts like Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Dhenkanal.
Intense heat wave conditions during the day time and severe humidity during the night will prevail in these places. IMD has also cautioned people not to venture out from home during the day time due to the intense heat wave conditions.
Meanwhile, Boudh and Malkangiri were the hottest places of the season with 42 degree Celsius on Thursday. As many as 11 places witnessed temperature more than 40 degree Celsius.
Besides Boudh and Malkangiri, some of the hottest places are Bolangir (41.7 degree Celsius), Angul (41.7 degree Celsius), Jharsuguda (41.6 degree Celsius), Bhawanipatna (41 degree Celsius), Titlagarh (41 degree Celsius), Nuapada (40.4 degree Celsius), Rourkela (40.2 degree Celsius) and Sundargarh (40.1 degree Celsius).
