Navigating with the help of Google Maps to visit a place? Sometimes, it may lead you to an undesirable destination. This has happened with a youth from France who is currently on a visit to Odisha. Following Google Maps, he was looking for the Gopalpur waterfall at Soro Railway Station in Balasore. However, he was allegedly misled to a place called Gopalpur near Sindhua dam.

As per reports, the French national, Marshal came to India in November and is currently visiting various cities and tourist spots. After visiting New Delhi, he went to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Later, he came to Kharagpur and then to Bhubaneswar by train. He visited Bhubaneswar and Puri before coming to Bhadrak.

On his way to Kolkata, he got down at the Soro Railway Station and wanted to visit Gopalpur waterfall which was allegedly shown on Google Maps to be located at Sindhua Dam.

Following the map, he was walking towards Sindhua dam assuming it to be Gopalpur waterfall. At that time, a group of local youths was curious to see a foreign national walking towards the dam. When the youths told him that the place he was heading toward was not Gopalpur waterfall, he realised the mistake.

Jadunath Nayak, a local youth, said that there is a place namely Gopalpur near Sindhua dam. “He wrongly came to the place. It was evening. The youth was roaming around to see the waterfall. Some people had earlier harassed him. Our youth club members helped him and made him realise that the place he was looking for was indeed Gopalpur but it was not Gopalpur Waterfall. We gave him hospitality as he is our athithi (guest),” he added.

Speaking to the media, Marshal said, "I am travelling all over the world. Two days ago, I found the place on Google Maps. It was beautiful with a waterfall and beach. Here is a beautiful village and nice people. I am really lucky to be here.”
