The Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the mysterious death of girl student Subhalaxmi Sahu in a hotel in Bhubaneswar recently.
Taking serious note of the incident, SCW has lodged a case and asked Bhubaneswar DCP to conduct a probe and submit a report before the commission within 15 days.
“We have written a letter to Bhubaneswar DCP to investigate the matter properly whether Subhalaxmi has committed suicide or she lost her life due to some other reasons. We have also asked the DCP to submit a report in this regard within 15 days,” said Odisha SCW chairperson Minati Behera.
As per reports, SCW expressed concern over the matter as the investigation into Subhalaxmi’s death case is gradually becoming murkier.
As per the primary investigation by the police, a nude MMS is the reason behind Subhalaxmi’s suicide. Subhalaxmi allegedly committed suicide as the MMS went viral within no time.
Commissionerate Police has so far questioned 8-12 people in this connection and their statements have been recorded. Moreover, police have got crucial information after analysing the Call Detail Record (CDR) of the deceased.
Though Subhalaxmi took admission to Kamala Nehru College, she was not attending classes. She was underage, but was working as a bar girl in many bars. When the managers and owners of the bars came to know about her age, they didn’t give her any work. Then some persons took advantage of it and allegedly involved her in some illegal works, sources said.
As per the preliminary investigation, one of his former boyfriends shot her nude MMS and made it viral. Subhalaxmi allegedly committed suicide because of the viral MMS.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Notably, Subhalaxmi had checked into the hotel located in Laxmisagar area at 3.20 am last Friday. After finding her body hanging in the room (Room No- 205), the hotel staff immediately informed the Laxmisagar Police.
