After failing Class 12, he set off to work as a labourer in a thread factory in Surat. He earned a mere Rs 8000/month. However, destiny had different plans for him. Never in the wildest dreams had anyone thought that a migrant worker would become an OAS officer someday.

However, with his grit and determination, this Odisha boy has once again proved that nothing is impossible. Well, we are talking about Bishnu Charan Nayak, 426th OPSC rank holder from Sirikoi village under Belguntha block in Ganjam district.

His journey from a migrant worker to an Assistant Professor and subsequently an OAS officer will be written in history with golden words. Coming from an extremely poor family, Bishnu had to go to Surat to work in a thread factory.

Despite failing in Class 12, he had the urge to continue his studies. With his quest for education, he completed his Plus II and Plus III before completing his Masters through IGNOU.

“As I had to fend for my family, I had to go to work in Surat. I had this quest for education, so I re-appeared for my Plus II examination and later went on to pursue Plus III and then my Masters. After that, I cleared NET and joined as an Assistant Professor at a college. I had been working as a professor during the day and preparing for OPSC during the night,” said Bishnu Charan Nayak.

With his hard work, he finally cracked the prestigious exam in his very first attempt. Once a bonded labourer, Bishnu Charan now vows to make Odisha migrant labourer-free.

“We have a lot to do both in society and political level to stop migrant labour. My first and top priority will be to stop bonded labour and take steps to create job opportunities in every village so that no one goes to other states to work as a labourer,” he added.

“We are all very happy. He is the first person in our family to clear civil services. With his success, he has now become a source of inspiration for many other youths in our village,” said his younger brother Rajendra Nayak.
