A serious road accident took place near the Rasulgarh–Vani Vihar flyover in Bhubaneswar around midnight on Friday when two cars crashed head-on on a no-entry stretch of the route.

The impact of the collision left four people injured, who were immediately shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment. Eyewitnesses said the vehicles were extensively damaged, with the front portions of both cars completely mangled.

Private Car And Cab Involved

According to reports, one of the vehicles involved was a private car, while the other was a commercial cab. The accident took place on the flyover towards Maharishi College from Rasulgarh, which has a ‘No Entry’ sign and permits travel only through a single designated route.

Preliminary reports suggest that the cab entered the wrong side of the flyover, allegedly due to the absence of diversion signs or police presence in the area, where road reconstruction work is underway.

Shortcut Suspected

Local suspicions also point to the possibility that the cab driver may have taken the route as a shortcut, as there were no police personnel in sight at midnight.

The cab was carrying a woman passenger who had booked the ride, while the private car was travelling at high speed from the opposite direction. The collision was forceful enough to generate a loud noise that alarmed locals, who rushed to the spot and alerted police and ambulance services.

Fortunately, the airbags in both vehicles deployed on impact, preventing major casualties.

Police Reach Accident Site

Saheed Nagar police quickly reached the scene and assisted in shifting the injured occupants to Capital Hospital for medical attention. Though the passengers escaped with injuries, the extent of damage to both cars is reported to be severe.
