In three separate unfortunate incidents in different places of Odisha, as many as four persons including three children died of snakebites on Tuesday.
A one and half year-old baby lost his life due to snakebite at Katuria village in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday. The baby’s mother Minati Mahakuda also suffered from the snakebite. She is currently undergoing treatment at Udala Hospital and her condition is stated to be critical.
As per reports, Minati was fast asleep at home with her son on Monday night. A poisonous snake bit both of them late at night. Their family members came to know about the incident on Tuesday morning and rushed both of them to Udala hospital. However, the baby was declared brought dead by the doctors. Meanwhile, the mother is undergoing treatment at the hospital in a critical condition.
In another similar kind of incident, two brothers lost their lives due to poisonous snakebite at Jangalikuda village in Deogarh district.
The deceased has been identified as 14-year-old Gouranga Dehuri and his eight-year-old brother Soubhya Dehuri.
As per reports, both the sons of Sarbasweara Dehuri were fast asleep on the floor of their house. They were bitten by a krait at around 4 pm.
Family members rushed them to Deogarh District Headquarters hospital in the morning. However, both of them passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital
In another snakebite incident, a woman from Sargiguda village under Ambapani village passed away on Saturday
The woman had come to her brother’s house when a poisonous snake bit me. Eventually, she succumbed to it.
Generally, most of the snakebite incidents are reported in Odisha between June and October.
Meanwhile, Odisha Public Health Department has issued an advisory to all the hospitals in the State to keep snake anti-venom in stock.
The Department has also urged people to carry patients suffering from snakebites immediately to the nearby hospitals instead of wasting time in black magic and other superstitious activities.
