Four members of a family from Kankadapal village under Baliapal block in Balasore district have gone missing after venturing into the sea for fishing on Saturday morning.

The missing fishermen have been identified as Gopalgiri, his sons Madhusudan Giri and Rabindra Giri, and Madhusudan’s brother-in-law Jagannath Pal. They had set out as usual on a motorboat around 8am but failed to return by noon.

Family Alerted Authorities After Delay

As per reports, the family engages in fishing every day, leaving in the morning and returning by noon. However, when the four individuals had not returned even by 3pm, their family members began to panic.

Following this, they informed the Baliapal police, the Fisheries Department, and the Fire Department. The three departments jointly launched a search operation to trace the missing fishermen.

Night Search Operation Using Drone

Despite hours of effort, authorities were unable to locate the fishermen. Later at night, the Talasari Marine Police deployed a drone to continue the search operation along the coastline and nearby sea areas.

Possible Boat Breakdown Suspected

It is suspected that the boat may have broken down, which might have left the four stranded at sea. According to the family, the group usually does not venture too deep into the sea, further raising concerns.

Fears Grow As No Trace Found

With no trace of the fishermen till late at night and the possibility of a mishap not ruled out, the family remains anxious. The authorities have continued search efforts, but the four men are still untraceable.
