4 dead, several injured in three separate accidents in Odisha

One person died and several others were injured when a bus they were travelling in lost control and overturned near Tara village under Nabarangpur police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday.

Sources reported that the bus was traveling from Raighar to Jeypore with 50 passengers on board. One of the rear tires of the vehicle burst, leading to it veering off the road and overturning.

“We were travelling when all of a sudden there was a loud sound and the bus started to sway sideways. Before the driver could regain control, the vehicle overturned. One person died and another lost his hand in the accident while other passengers sustained injuries,” stated a passenger who survived the crash.

Following the crash, fire services personnel and police arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations, where they were aided by local residents. Till the last reports came in, efforts were underway to identify the deceased passenger.

“The bus was going at a high speed when one of the tyres burst, leading to the accident. We have inspected the wreckage, and there are no more casualties,” stated the Nabarangpur police,e while adding that they are currently investigating whether the bus had a valid fitness certificate.

Bus Runs Over Headmaster in Ganjam

In another ill-fated accident today at Kaithakhandi Square in Digapahandi of Ganjam district, Kuresh Patra, the headmaster of Madhuban School, was on his way to school on a bike when he was involved in a head-on collision with a private bus.

Sources reported that the private bus named ‘Neelakanth’ hit the man near the Digapahandi-Ghodahada main road. The impact caused the principal to fall onto the road, resulting in a severe head injury and death.

Khordha: Car Collides Head-On with Bus, 2 Dead

A separate tragic accident near Pichukuli on the Khordha-Bolangir route claimed two lives when a car collided head-on with a bus. Following the crash, a man and woman traveling in the car were crushed to death.

The duo was reportedly traveling from Bhubaneswar to Nayagarh when the accident took place. Efforts are on to ascertain their identities.
