Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Member of Parliament Pinaki Misra and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra reportedly tied the knot in Germany, according to media reports. The two who were rumoured to be dating secretly have tied the knot in Germany, reports said.
Their relationship came under public scrutiny during the 2023 cash-for-query controversy involving Mahua Moitra. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged a close association between Moitra and Misra, citing an affidavit by businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
However, Misra had then denied these allegations, calling them malicious and unverified, and considered legal action against the BJP for defamation.
The reported marriage in Germany marks a significant personal milestone for both politicians. As of now, neither Misra nor Moitra has publicly commented on their union. The development has garnered attention in political circles, given their past controversies and the cross-party nature of their alliance.
Mahua Moitra, born on October 12, 1974, in Labac, Assam, is an Indian politician and former investment banker. She began her political career with the Indian National Congress before joining the TMC in 2010. Moitra served as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly representing Karimpur from 2016 to 2019 and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Krishnanagar in 2019.
She gained national attention for her "Early signs of fascism" speech in Parliament. However, her career faced turbulence when she was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8, 2023, following a recommendation by the Ethics Committee in a cash-for-query case. Despite this setback, she was re-elected to Parliament in the 2024 general election.
Pinaki Misra, born on October 23, 1959, in Puri, Odisha, is a senior advocate and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha representing Puri, initially elected as a Congress candidate in 1996 and later as a BJD member from 2009 until 2024. Misra has been a prominent legal figure, practicing in the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts.
