Sunanda Das, former legislator from Bari Assembly constituency, joined the Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. She had left Opposition BJD before joining the saffron camp.
She changed party along with her supporters and embraced the ruling party in the presence of BJP state unit president Manmohan Samal and some other senior leaders in a special inclusion ceremony organised at the BJP party office in Bhubaneswar.

“I became deeply inspired by the welfare programmes of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and the ideologies of BJP; hence, I joined the party. So to say, I returned home. I will work hard to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and develop the Bari region as well,” the former MLA said.
“This is just a beginning and the list of keen leaders is long enough. Discussions with them are on and inclusion into our party will be decided in subsequent phases,” BJP chief Samal stated.
Worth mentioning, Sunanda Das represented the Bari Assembly segment from 2019 to 2024. However, BJD did not field her during the last General Elections.
The former MLA was in debate after she quit BJD nearly a week ago. After tendering her resignation from the primary membership of BJD, she spewed venom on the previous government led by Naveen Patnaik, including some other leaders.
