In a shocking twist to the Balasore's Fakir Mohan College girl student death case, Kashis Dash, a close friend of the deceased and a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), has alleged that the student was a victim of political conspiracy and mental harassment, ultimately leading her to take the extreme step of setting herself on fire.
Speaking to OTV, Kashis revealed that the victim was mentally harassed and isolated for her political affiliation. “She was humiliated while alive, and now, after her death, we are crying for justice,” she said.
“If I open up, it may hurt many. But our friend burnt to death. So the real culprits should go through the same. Around 200 to 300 students came in support of the HoD. Her character was questioned,” she said.
‘She Became Helpless’
Kashis further said, “If at that time, the opposition group had come in support of the girl and stood beside her, she would have been saved. The day she set herself on fire, the principal asked her to furnish evidence supporting her application. Otherwise, she was told, the case would turn and action would be taken against her. She became helpless.”
“People are questioning why we were not with her, but we were there. During the lunch hour, we had gone home. She was there, and we had asked some boys to keep an eye on her. She was told to prove her claims. Failing to do so, she took the extreme step,” she added.
Where Did Petrol Come From?
Asked about how the victim got petrol, she said, “It is still a suspense where the petrol came from. The day it is revealed, half of the investigation will be complete. We wanted suspension because she was mentally harassed. When we demanded the same, sir sought time.”
“She had told me that even small children were saying ‘Didi’s character is not good.’ She was unable to tolerate that. People are not trying to understand her point of view. Though many of us tweeted, the opposition did not pay heed. They stood with the person who was wrong. Now that the girl is no more, they are demanding justice. This is mostly a political agenda,” she added.
“She was a very strong member of ABVP. The opposition used it for political benefits. The matter was politicized by the faculty and opposition members. If everyone had stood by us, leaving politics aside, this could have been avoided,” she stated.
‘We All Are Burning Inside’
Recalling how the deceased student was subjected to humiliation, Kashis said, “If she was getting late by 2–3 minutes, the faculty used to prevent her from attending class. She was insulted before other students. If she participated in any cultural activity, her parents were told she was not studying. When even her tears before the media failed to make them understand, how could we? She didn’t burn alone — we all are burning inside. We will not stop until a proper investigation is done.”
