In a significant development in the Fakir Mohan College student suicide case, Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday said that more serious charges have now been added to the FIR following her death.

Speaking to the media, Pujari said, “Since the student has lost her life, the previous sections have been modified. Now, charges related to abetment of suicide and causing severe mental trauma have been added.”

He further stated that the investigation will not be limited to just the college principal and HOD, but anyone who instigated or failed to act will be brought under the purview of the probe.

Pujari assured that the state government is committed to delivering justice to the victim and her family. “Whosoever is found responsible, directly or indirectly, will not be spared. Besides, effective measures will be in place so that no student in the state faces such a situation again,” he added.

A high-level meeting was held at the State Secretariat on Tuesday in the presence of two Deputy Chief Ministers, state BJP president, and senior ministers including the Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Health Minister, Transport Minister, and senior legislator Jay Narayan Mishra, among others. The meeting discussed the legal course of action and future steps.

Law Minister Harichandan said, “Legal proceedings are underway, and necessary actions will be taken against the accused as per the Chief Minister’s directives. Stringent action will be taken against all those involved in the incident. The government will also ensure that effective measures are in place so that no student in the state faces such a situation again.”
