The ongoing investigation into the tragic self-immolation case involving a female student of Fakir Mohan College has taken a significant turn, with the emergence of new CCTV footage that could hold vital clues.

The footage, recorded at 10:44 AM on July 12, reportedly shows the victim riding a bicycle in the direction of a petrol pump, just hours before she set herself ablaze.

According to sources in the Crime Branch, which is currently probing the case, the footage was captured from a CCTV installed along the route between FM College and Chandipur.

The investigating team is now trying to establish whether she bought the petrol herself or if someone else was involved in arranging it for her.

The fresh evidence has sparked renewed efforts to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident. The Crime Branch is verifying the authenticity of the footage and cross-checking it with witness statements and transaction records from nearby fuel stations.

Questions have also arisen regarding the chain of events: Did the victim act under emotional duress, or was there someone influencing her decision?

Investigators are now focusing on collecting more footage from surrounding areas, analyzing her mobile data, and interrogating acquaintances for deeper insights.

Earlier, the case had stirred public outrage and demands for justice, with student organizations and civil society groups holding protests, alleging mental harassment. The police had formed a special team to assist the Crime Branch, and statements from college staff, friends, and family had already been recorded.

As the investigation progresses, the Crime Branch has assured that every angle, including abetment to suicide and premeditated planning, will be thoroughly probed.

The new CCTV evidence could play a pivotal role in unearthing the truth behind the incident and delivering justice to the victim.

Earlier, two students were arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with the incident.
