The suspended principal of Fakir Mohan (FM) Autonomous College, Dilip Ghosh has been arrested by Sahadevkhunta police in connection with a girl student’s self-immolation bid due to alleged harassment by a faculty member. The arrest follows days of protests and demands from the family of the victim student who had earlier accused him of harassment.
This development comes after the arrest of Sameer Kumar Sahoo, Head of the Education Department, against who the victim had brought the allegations. The twin arrests have sent shockwaves across the academic fraternity and sparked renewed debates over safeguarding students in educational institutions, said sources.

Authorities have assured a fair and transparent investigation, while student bodies continue to demand stringent action and systemic reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
Victim Remains Critical
The health condition of the victim girl student from Balasore, who attempted self-immolation on Saturday, continues to remain critical at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Medical authorities on Monday confirmed that the victim is now undergoing dialysis, as her kidney function has deteriorated significantly.
According to AIIMS Bhubaneswar officials, the dialysis is being carried out in consultation with experts from AIIMS Delhi via video conferencing.

Hospital sources added that her potassium levels had dropped dangerously low, prompting the administration of essential vitamins and micronutrients.
“We are closely monitoring her blood sugar levels. Her internal organs have suffered massive damage, and we are offering round-the-clock and the best treatment facilities to her,” said an AIIMS doctor.
