A major internal rift has surfaced within the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) after seven out of eight conch-party-supported Samiti members have brought a no-confidence motion against the party's Padia block chairperson Yamuna Mushaki in Malkangiri district.
Allegations of Negligence and Misconduct
The members allege that the Chairperson has been negligent in her duties and has consistently delayed development-related work, including bill clearances. They also accused her of misbehaving with public representatives and being involved in corrupt practices.
Demand for Immediate Action
All seven members convened a meeting and submitted a formal letter to the sub-collector, demanding that a date for the no-confidence vote be fixed immediately. They claimed that the Chairperson’s actions were detrimental to the developmental aspirations of the region.
Cracks Within the Party
Though all members belong to the BJD, the no-confidence motion reflects deep cracks and dissatisfaction within the party’s grassroots leadership in the region. This internal dissent could have broader implications for the party’s image and governance in Malkangiri.
Allegations By Samiti Members
“The block chairperson is neglecting us. So, we think that she is not eligible for the post. She must work for the people,” alleged Debi Madhi, a samiti member.
Sub-collector Responds
“We will issue a formal notice for the voting and if the result goes against the chairperson, she will be disqualified,” said Duryadhan Bhoi, Malkangiri sub-collector.
