Fisherman's lucky catch nets Rs 1 lakh at auction in Digha

A rare shark weighing approximately 200 kilograms was sold for nearly Rs 1 lakh at the Petuaghat fish harbour near Contai in West Bengal. The local fisherman experienced an unexpected windfall after capturing the massive 200 kg shark. 

The substantial shark drew a large crowd, leading to a bustling auction at the nearby Digha Coast fish market.

A Spectacle in Contai:

The shark, which got trapped in the fisherman's net, was sold for nearly Rs 1 lakh, an amount that is considered a significant sum in the regional fishing industry. The uncommon catch was auctioned at the fish trading center near the Digha River's mouth. This location is a bustling hub for local marine trade, frequently hosting similar auctions for large sea creatures.

Locals gathered in large numbers, intrigued by the sight of the sizeable marine creature, showcasing curiosity and interest in such an uncommon catch. The swift auction became the talk of the town, with people marvelling at the significant profit secured by the fishermen.
