A fire incident occurred in Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express (12074) at Cuttack station on Thursday morning.
The train was en route to Howrah of West Bengal from Bhubaneswar when the blaze was spotted beneath a coach. Soon the fire services personnel were pressed into service and the flame was brought under control.
No injuries to any passengers were reported from the train.
The railway authorities informed that the fire occurred due to a problem with the brake binding during a halt at platform number 2 of the Cuttack station.
In a Statement, the East Coast railway said, "Due to Brake-binding (brake not released from wheel), 12074 Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express was detained at Cuttack Railway Station from 6:30am. After releasing the brake from the wheel, the train departed from Cuttack at about 7:15am. The cause of non-release of brake being investigated. There is no fire inside the coach."
Thankfully, the blaze sparked when the train was halting at a station, so the firefighters and RPF personnel were able to tend to the emergency situation immediately and doused it.
Speaking to OTV, a passenger said, "The train arrived at Cuttack station at around 6:35am. Seeing smoke emanating from under the train, fire fighters rushed to the platform. All the passengers were deboarded from the train as a precautionery measure. It took them around 30 minutes to douse the fire completely."
The train left the Cuttack Station for its destination after a thorough check-up and permission from the Railway engineers and the fire safety team.
