A fire broke out at a coal mine operated by the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Talcher of Angul district early Thursday morning. The blaze is believed to have been caused by a short circuit, leading to significant smoke from the silo conveyor belt.

No fatalities or burn injuries have been reported in the inferno, so far.
According to sources, the fire caused damage to the belt and various pieces of machinery used in the mining operations. The incident occurred as coal was being conveyed through the silo belt, with the fire reportedly affecting around 50 to 60 metres of it. Intense smoke filled the area, creating a challenging environment for workers on site.
“The blaze occurred in the conveyor belt near Compressor House and machine parts worth around lakhs of rupees were gutted in the incident,” an eyewitness expressed.

Four fire tenders from the MCL were dispatched to the spot and the flames were doused. However, the incident has disrupted coal transportation by railway from the silo, affecting normal business operations.
No official statement regarding the fire was issued by MCL.
