A massive fire broke out at a temporary dumping yard in the Nageswar Tangi area near Nandan Vihar in Bhubaneswar on Monday. According to sources, the fire broke out at the dumping yard around 12 pm. Locals complained that they were facing difficulties due to the fire as the smoke coming out of the dumping yard was making it difficult for them to breathe.
On being informed, four fire tenders reached the spot and initiated steps to bring the fire under control.
However, the intensity of the fire was so high that some locals starting from children and senior citizens living in nearby apartments were reportedly left gasping for breath.
“We informed the fire brigade team when we saw the fire. There are people living close by the dumping yard and the trash-picking trucks are dumping other things rather than bio-degradable garbage. The stench from the dumping yard is making it much worse. This fire accident has definitely affected the air quality. The BMC should deal with all the dumping yards in the city carefully,” said a local.
Similarly, another resident said, “This noon I saw smoke coming out of the dumping yard. Even the fire team is struggling to extinguish the fire. We are not feeling safe here. What if such fire accidents happen during the night and burn our houses to ashes?"
