A female elephant was found dead near Saharagoda under the Angul forest range in Odisha on Saturday morning. The carcass was spotted by villagers near the Budbudia forest, close to their settlement, following which they alerted the forest department. On getting information, forest officials and staff reached the spot and launched a preliminary investigation.

No signs of external injuries, poaching ruled out for now

The deceased elephant is believed to be middle-aged. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, no visible external injuries have been detected on the body so far. As a result, the forest department has not classified it as a case of poaching. Officials stated that further examination would be needed to determine the exact cause of death.

Electrocution ruled out in earlier case, no link confirmed

The incident follows a recent case where a tusker was found dead due to electrocution in the same region. However, no connection has been established between the two incidents. In the fresh case, the circumstances leading to the female elephant’s death have not yet been ascertained.

Medical team and DFO rush to site for detailed probe

According to reports, a medical team and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) are on their way to the spot to carry out further examination. Forest officials said a detailed investigation would be conducted to establish the reason or condition under which the elephant died.

The forest department has assured that all angles will be looked over and necessary measures will be taken depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
