Female Asst Professor of Sambalpur University ‘harassed’ by colleague; Committee constituted for probe

A female Assistant Professor at the Political Science department of Sambalpur University has brought serious allegations of harassment against one of her colleagues.

In her complaint, she alleged that a male assistant professor, who works in the same Political Science department of the University, has been harassing her in an inebriated condition for quite a few months.

She alleged that after he returned from his suspension the environment of the department became unsafe again to work as a woman.

“The colleague has been levelling me as incapable and incompetent to discharge my duties. He orders me to do my work in an intoxicated condition,” she said in her complaint to the Vice-Chancellor.

She urged the Vice Chancellor to take appropriate action in this regard in order to protect the self-esteem of the female employees of the University. She further said that she would be forced to knock on the doors of the National Commission for Women if her grievance is not resolved by the University authorities.

Meanwhile, the concerned assistant professor could not be contacted over the allegations levelled against him.

The University officials, on the other hand, have constituted a committee and assured of appropriate action after a detailed probe.
