The fire completely gutted the asbestos-roofed house and initially left the victim critically injured. The deceased has been identified as Saroj Sahu, who was staying in the house on rent.

According to reports, the fire broke out while Saroj was alone at home, as his wife and young son were outside at the time. Fire department personnel from Angul reached the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control, but the damage was already extensive by then.
