A domestic dispute escalated into deadly violence late Saturday night in Gramadiha village under the jurisdiction of the Infovalley Police Station. A heated altercation between a son-in-law and his in-laws resulted in the death of one individual, while two others sustained critical injuries.
According to sources, the incident took place at the residence of Pramod Jena when his son-in-law, Dibakar, arrived late at night and launched a brutal attack on his wife, Lakshmipriya Bastia, with a sharp weapon following a heated argument. Laxmipriya sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
Upon witnessing his daughter being attacked, Jena and his son retaliated by confronting Dibakar. In the ensuing scuffle, Dibakar sustained serious injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Dibakar succumbed to his wounds on the spot, as per preliminary police reports.
Two Others Critical, Undergoing Treatment
Following the violent incident, both Lakshmipriya and her father, Pramod Jena, were severely injured. They were rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where they are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Eyewitness statements
Sources also cited eyewitness reports that suggested Dibakar to be in an inebriated condition. Further, they also added that matrimonial disputes between the husband and wife were ongoing for a while.
“Pramod Jena’s daughter had returned to her maternal home after suffering repeated abuses from Dibakar. Last night, he entered Jena’s residence and started attacking his wife and mother-in-law with a sharp weapon, following which a confrontation ensued,” said Gramadiha Sarpanch Sudhanshu Shekhar Moharana.
Police Investigation Underway
Infovalley Police and Bhubaneswar Zone-3 ACP Tapas Pradhan arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and have initiated a thorough investigation. Statements from key witnesses, including family members and neighbours, are being recorded.

As of now, the Infovalley Police have taken custody of the crime scene, and further legal action is expected following a complete investigation.
