There is an air of excitement as Odisha is all set to witness the launch of 5G telecom network services on January 5.
According to sources, as many as 510 base transceiver stations (BTS) towers have already been installed across the state by telecom operators Reliance Jio and Airtel.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will launch the much-awaited service in Bhubaneswar for which preparations are in full swing. Telecom companies are likely to cover the big cities with the 5G initially before extending the service to rural areas.
Bhagyashree Das, a student, said, “With the launch of 5G, we will be able to access things with the tap of a finger. Urban dwellers will enjoy the 5G service without interruption. I want this service to also be made available in rural pockets.”
Swoorupa Sutar, a resident of Bhubaneswar, said, “Every coin has two sides. Similarly, 5G has its pros and cons. The speed must be fast for sure. Along with it, the users will no longer face downloading issues as 5G would greatly enhance the overall download speed. But the radiation emitted by 5G will largely have adverse impact on brain.”
Telecom expert Nabakishore Maharana said, “We usually get speeds up to 20MB per second in 4G which can go to 100 MBPS.
But when it comes to 5G it can go up to 1GBPS very easily. From this it can be easily imagined how fast our digital life will be
going ahead.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G services on October 1 on the occasion of 6th India Mobile Congress at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
In the initial phase, the much-awaited network has been launched in selected cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai.
Besides, President Droupadi Murmu’s village Pahadpur under Kusumi block in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha also experienced the new generation telecom network.
