EOW arrests web journalist for duping builder of Rs 1 crore in Bhubaneswar

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a journalist of a web portal for allegedly duping Rs 1 crore and expensive cars from a builder in Bhubaneswar.  

The accused has been identified as Surjit Dhal and the complainant is Kalinga Kesari Rath. 

According to sources, Surjit demanded money from Rath on the pretext of providing government clearance. 

Surjit allegedly took Rs 1 crore and two expensive cars from Rath. However, Surjit allegedly did not provide him the government clearance. 

Rath tried to contact Surjit many times regarding the clearance. However, Surjit avoided his calls and gave no updates on the clearance. 

After realising that he had become a victim of fraud, Rath lodged an FIR with the EOW. 

Based on the FIR, EOW officials arrested Surjit and initiated a probe into the matter. 

Till the time of filing of this report, no comments were received from the EOW.
