Disciplinary action has been initiated on Sunday in connection with the recent elephant death in Telkoi under Keonjhar district, following delays in identifying the carcass and shortcomings in the monitoring process.

As per reports, Malay Kumar Jena, the Forester of Telkoi Section, and Ajit Kumar Das, the Forest Guard of Barhadebata Beat, have been transferred from their respective posts. The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Keonjhar, HD Dhanaraj, informed that a departmental inquiry has also been launched into the matter.

In addition, a show-cause notice has been issued to Telkoi Range Officer, Shibaji Mohan Rao, over the incident.

Regarding the recovery of the elephant tusks, both the Joint Task Force (JTF) and the Special Task Force (STF) have started an investigation. Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Sudipta Panda, is also actively cooperating in the inquiry.

Preliminary suspicions suggest that the tusker was killed and its tusks were looted nearly a month ago. As of now, the tusks of the deceased elephant have not yet been recovered.
