In a shocking incident, an elderly woman was brutally attacked and killed during a robbery attempt at Tigiria village under Balichandrapur police limits in Jajpur district late Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Koushalya Pati.

According to sources, Pati is a widow and was living with her younger daughter, who works as an ASHA worker.

At around 2 am, Pati woke up to attend nature’s call. However, the two burglars, who were already there and hatching a plan to loot the house, attacked Pati after she spotted them, sources added.

Severely injured, Pati was immediately rushed to Badachana Medical Centre, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, sources added.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the matter and are working to identify and nab the culprits.

Locals have demanded strict action and increased night patrolling to prevent such heinous crimes.

What Family Members Say

“My sister and mother live in the house. When they woke around 2 am to attend to nature’s call, the two burglars forced into the house and assaulted them. Hearing their scream, the negibhours came to their rescue, but the assailants had left the home by then,” said Indurekha Nanda, elder daughter of the deceased.

Jajati Keshari Pati, son of the deceased said, “The two miscreants suddenly attacked my mother and sister. My mother sustained head injuries in the attack. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared her dead on arrival.”
