An elderly man lost his life after being attacked by a pack of jackals in Bhadrak district on Thursday morning. The incident took place in Atto village under Sabarang police station limits.
According to reports, the 63-year-old Kahnu Charan Sahoo was returning home after taking a bath at the nearby water body when 6 to 7 jackals suddenly pounced at him. They bit his face and several parts of his body, leaving him grievously injured.
Hearing his desperate cries for help, villagers ran to the spot to rescue him. He was rescued in a critical condition and immediately rushed to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The incident has left the local community in shock and fear.
Family Member Recounts Ordeal
“He had gone to the nearby field to relieve himself when nearly a dozen jackals surrounded him. In panic, he fell to the ground, and they attacked him mercilessly. People from the area informed me, and when I rushed to the spot, he was already lifeless,” Basanti Sahoo, a family member of the deceased, said.
Shock Among Locals
The unusual and tragic death has sparked panic in the area, as villagers fear further wild animal attacks. Authorities are expected to review the situation and take precautionary measures in the locality to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
