Eklavya Model Residential School student dies in Rayagada; family accuses school authorities of negligence

The death of a student studying in class eight at Eklavya Model Residential School in Rayagada has sparked tension with the family members accusing the school authorities of negligence.

The deceased student, Mahendra Majhi, was rushed to Rayagada district headquarters hospital after his health condition deteriorated. However, he died while undergoing treatment.

The family members alleged that the school authorities had not informed them about his disease.

"If the student was unwell for six months, the school authorities should have informed us. We only came to know after conducting tests," the elder brother of the deceased adding that it was complete negligence of school authorities.

However, the school authorities have refuted such allegations.

Teacher Arun Behera said, "It was around 10:18 pm when we brought the student to the hospital. Later, the student died while undergoing treatment. We have appraised the matter to senior officials."
