According to the committee sources, preparations for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations in Cuttack are officially underway. The city peace committee held a key meeting to coordinate efforts and finalise plans. As per the committee’s decision, the Puja festivities will begin on September 28, with a grand immersion procession (Bhasani Sobhayatra) scheduled to take place on October 3.

The meeting, held in the premises of Bidyadharpur Puja Committee, focused on ensuring a smooth and peaceful celebration. Important topics discussed included resolving the issues related to roads, street lighting, and the availability of drinking water during Puja days, including improving access to Puja pandals.

A major demand raised in the meeting was for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to waive taxes related to pandal decorations and lighting, to ease the financial burden on Puja committees.

The meeting saw active participation from local political leaders, MLAs, and administrative officers, reflecting the significance of Durga Puja in the cultural and civic life of Cuttack.

Residents have been requested to celebrate responsibly and uphold the city's tradition of Bhaichara (religious harmony), peaceful and vibrant festivities.

“Basic issues are there with the CMC (Cuttack civic body), such as roads, lighting, trimming of trees, garbage management, and cable-related matters. We have already started working on it. CMC is coordinating with the R&B (Roads and Buildings) and Works departments for the repair of major roads in the city area,” CMC Mayor Subhash Singh stated.

“A preparatory meeting was held today by the Purbanchal Shanti Committee. Mati Utha (a typical soil collection ritual) has already started two days ago. In a sense, the Durga Puja festivities in Cuttack city have begun,” the Mayor added.
