President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday laid the foundation stone for three new railway lines in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.

The event took place at Bangiriposi railway station in Mayurbhanj on the fifth and final day of the President’s five-day visit to Odisha.

President Murmu green-lit construction of the railway projects consisting of three new lines- Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh routes.

The new lines will connect the tribal-dominated districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar to several other parts of Odisha. It is expected to be a major boost for industrial and tourism development in these mineral-rich and relatively underdeveloped regions of the state.

On the same day, the President also virtually inaugurated a Tribal Research and Development Centre in Rairangpur.

Additionally, she also laid a foundation stone for the upgradation of the Dandbose airport and for the construction of a new block at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, both via video conferencing.

The five-day visit of the President of India to the state saw her attending several high-profile events and inaugurating several projects of educational importance.

On Wednesday, President Murmu performed puja and darshan at the Jagannath temple in Puri before attending the 75th-anniversary celebrations of Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya in the holy town.

On the same day, she graced the Indian Navy Day celebrations at the Blue Flag beach in Puri as its chief guest. The following day, the President attended the 40th convocation of Odisha University of Agricultural and Technology (OUAT) and inaugurated the new Khordha Judicial Court Complex in Bhubaneswar.

Later, on Friday, the President visited her native place in Uparbeda village of Mayurbhanj and could not stop herself from dancing with tribal women, winning hearts everywhere.
