The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has prepared a mega action plan to control the rising menace of mosquitoes in the capital city.
As part of the plan, drones will be used to spray chemicals in the inaccessible areas of the city where vehicles cannot reach, informed BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
Besides, the civic body has planned to increase the number of vehicles engaged in carrying out fogging activity in the city. More teams will be engaged for cutting bushes.
Moreover, technical team will undertake surveyes in the areas where breeding of mosquitoes is high.
“Many problems arise due to mosquitoes and it is concerning us. Therefore, we convened a special meeting today. In addition, like Calcutta Municipal Corporation we will identify the source of the mosquito breeding and after locating the place we will apply spray through drones. It will be launched from December 23,” BMC Mayor Sulochana Das said.
“We must be aware that the BMC had earlier announced two days a week as dry day to identity source and check standing water so that we can prevent the mosquito life circle,” she added.
“Works are in progress to carry out dense fogging properly. We have also decided to increase the fogging team and three teams will be engaged within next month. In addition, drone spray will be introduced in remote areas where vehicles can not be moved manually. The process has already been started and it will be started within one or two days,” BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said.
“We are also giving emphasis on grass cutting in mosquito-prone areas,” he added.
