The Odisha Transport Department on Monday announced initiate a state-wide crackdown on dangerous driving after several reels and videos of motorists flouting traffic norms went viral on social media.
The department has ordered strict action, including seizure of vehicles, suspension of driving licences and registration certificates, and imposition of heavy fines.
Transport and Commerce Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, along with Principal Secretary Usha Padhee and Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, has directed all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to act without leniency. Officials stressed that reckless stunts not only endanger the drivers themselves but also pose serious risks to other road users.

Key Incidents Prompting Action
Koraput: A truck carrying boulders overturned on the Jaipur stretch of the National Highway. The driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was booked under the Motor Vehicles Act and IPC. The vehicle was seized.
Khordha: A viral video showed a four-wheeler driver dancing during a rally near a school while leaving the steering wheel. Authorities seized the car and initiated proceedings to suspend the driver’s licence.
Bhubaneswar: A reel featuring a young man and woman performing stunts on a bike spread widely online. The RTO seized the bike, imposed fines, and moved to suspend the licence.
Puri: Similar incidents flagged through social media were acted upon swiftly, with fines and seizures carried out by local RTOs.

The department has urged citizens to avoid dangerous driving practices and warned that violators would face strict legal consequences. Social media platforms will continue to be monitored closely to track down reckless behaviour on roads.
