The mortal remains of District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan Dinesh Nag, who was martyred in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday, were consigned to flames with full state honours on Tuesday.

Nag lost his life when Maoists detonated an improvised explosive device during an anti-Maoist operation in the Bijapur National Park area. Three other jawans were critically injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at Raipur Medical College.

A guard of honour was presented before the last rites were performed in the presence of senior officials, family members, and hundreds of locals who turned out to bid a tearful farewell.

Bastar IG Sundarraj P paid floral tributes to the martyr and assured that his supreme sacrifice would not go in vain.

“Acting on a tip off of Maoist presence in Bijapur National Park area, a team went to the spot on August 17. During operation, four jawans sustained injuries in an IED blast on August 18. Dinesh sustained severe injuries and succumbed. The three other jawans have been admitted to hospital in Raipur and their condition is stable,” Bastar IG Sundarraj P said.

“Dinesh served for the last eight years and was involved in many anti-Maoist operations. His supreme sacrifice would not go in vain,” the IG added.
