Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo today reiterated the Odisha BJP government’s 300 units of free electricity assurance and appealed to everyone to learn to conserve energy and electricity at home.
“Learn to conserve energy, do not expect free electricity,” the Deputy CM said in the Assembly on Wednesday.
He further added, "Electricity consumed needs to be paid for. Services cannot be provided free."
Replying to a question by MLA Ashok Kumar Das, Singh Deo said, “People should learn to conserve energy and not expect free electricity. No one should keep hopes of free services, instead, everyone should be educated.”
“Steps are also being taken to educate the consumers through video messages,” he added.
KV Singh Deo’s comments come in the wake of the demand for free and subsidized power supply in the state as per BJP’s promise in the 2024 election manifesto. However, Deo reiterated that the promise of 300 units of free electricity will be fulfilled under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
However, he did not specify how and when the Mohan Majhi-led government is planning to roll out the scheme.
Worth mentioning, the BJP in response to the previous BJD government’s promise of 100 units of free electricity to every household every month, had promised to implement the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
