Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahoo was attacked allegedly by supporters of BJD organizational secretary Pranab Prakash Das near the Budhapola area of the Jajpur district on Wednesday evening.
As per reports, Himanshu was on his way along with one of his assistants to attend a meeting at the DDM office. However, he found some persons staging a road blockade near the Budhapola area by burning tyres.
When Himanshu came out of his vehicle to enquire about the incident, some miscreants, who claimed them to be the supporters of Pranab Prakash Das, allegedly attacked Himanshu with iron rods and sticks. They allegedly thrashed Himanshu and snatched his gold chain. They also damaged Himanshu’s vehicle.
“The supporters of Pranab Prakash Das attacked me and damaged my vehicle. They also damaged my vehicle. I have informed the police about the matter. We demand immediate arrest of the culprits,” said Himanshu.
As per reports, tension prevailed in the area following the incident. Some BJP supporters rushed to the spot and had an altercation with the BJD supporters.
As per sources, five to six persons have sustained injuries in the process.
Jajpur Town Police reached the spot and were trying to pacify the situation. Himanshu reportedly identified some persons who attacked him.

As per sources, the supporters of Pranab Prakash Das allegedly attacked Himanshu as he was bringing up many allegations of corruption during the tenure of the previous government.
However, BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das refuted the allegations against him.
“BJD doesn’t believe in violence and it is a very tragic incident. I condemn the incident. Full cooperation will be provided to the administration to arrest the culprits. I don’t know the exact reason behind the protest. However, any kind of violence will not be tolerated. My brother was not there. I have asked my brother to go to the police station. If he is the culprit, he will also be arrested. We always respect law and order. I have spoken with the SP and asked him to take necessary actions against the culprits,” said Das.
Meanwhile, Jajpur police have formed three special teams to arrest the culprits.
“We have formed three special teams to nab the miscreants. Senior officials from the headquarters are also monitoring the matter. I along with other inspectors have come to the spot to carry out the investigation. We will arrest the culprits soon,” said Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal.
