The pathetic condition of the road near the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) has made commuting a nightmarish experience for the residents of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
As per sources, people are facing considerable inconvenience while commuting on the waterlogged and pothole-filled stretch.
Many people from Cuttack commute through the road to reach the Capital City. Besides, thousands of tourists and visitors from and outside the State also visit the zoo every day.
The judges of High Court and many IPS officers often commute through the road on a daily basis. However, the road which is only 100 metres away from the main gate of the zoo has turned into a nightmare for the visitors. Many accidents are taking place along the road every day.
The road has been waterlogged and become unsafe for commuters due to potholes and waterlogging. Local residents have expressed their resentment over the pathetic condition of the road.
“Nandankanan Zoo is a tourist place. However, the road near the zoo has turned into a death trap due to the carelessness and lackadaisical attitude of the administration,” alleged a local resident.
“It’s a kind of nightmare to cross the road near Nandankanan. Water is overflowing on the river due to poor sewerage system. The road has also developed potholes. It is quite dangerous for the commuters while commuting on the road near the zoo,” said another resident.
“The road is often waterlogged with little rain. During the dry days, it is often dusty causing inconvenience for the commuters. Many accidents are taking place on a daily basis on the road. It’s all happening due to poor repair work and the careless attitude of the administration,” said a commuter.
Moreover, there is a conflict between Cuttack and Khordha administrations on who is responsible for undertaking the road repair work in the area.
However, no comments could be obtained from the administration in this regard.
