Keeping the Dengue situation in view, the Odisha Health department on Saturday decided to increase the number of beds in Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
At present, there are 50 beds set aside for Dengue patients. The total number of beds will be increased to 70. The decision was taken after Public Health Director Dr. Niranjan Mishra took stock of the situation at the hospital.
“Capital Hospital is fully ready with all the support system to face the situation. Every day around 500 patients are visiting the hospital for tests and around 60 are testing positive for the disease. At present, 52 patients are undergoing treatment and are in good health condition. We are receiving eight to 10 patients daily and patients are also being discharged,” informed additional superintendent of Capital Hospital, Dr Dhananjay Dash.
Informing about the Dengue situation in the state, Public Health Director, Dr. Mishra said, “There is an increase in the number of Dengue patients but it can’t be termed as exponential. I have already said that we have increased testing. Last year, 18,400 tests were done. This year, the figure has reached over 35,000. With the increase in testing, the detection of cases is increasing."
“A total of 2,204 Dengue-positive cases were reported from across the state till yesterday. And Khordha district has reported the maximum number of cases,” he added.
