The Odisha unit of the Congress party launched a dawn-to-dusk bandh on Tuesday in Kantabanji over the death threats issued to local MLA and senior party leader Santosh Singh Saluja.
The bandh, which began at 6 am, will continue till 6 pm today.
The Congress party alleged police inaction in nabbing the person behind issuing death threats to the legislator and demanded to make immediate arrests.
The members of the Congress party urged the business community of the western Odisha town to support the bandh and close their offices and shops till evening.
However, as Matric exams commencing from today, the party has exempted educational institutes and vehicular movement from the bandh.
Several posters and banners threatening to kill Congress leader and Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja within 15 days surfaced in Bolangir district on Monday morning.
While the banners have a picture of a man, his identity is yet to be ascertained. The unknown person wrote, “I will kill Santosh Singh Saluja within 15 days.”
Kantabanji police seized all the banners and launched a probe to nab the accused. However, the police are yet to make any headway into the case.
