A group of armed miscreants looted a jewellery shop at Harichandanpur bazaar in Odisha’s Keonjhar on Wednesday. The daylight robbery has triggered both panic and outrage among the locals.
The robbers, armed with guns and machetes, fired blank rounds to intimidate onlookers before fleeing with gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees from the shop.
Five Robbers on Bikes, Guns on Display
According to reports, five men arrived on two motorcycles and allegedly stormed into the jewellery store in broad daylight. Witnesses reported that the assailants brandished pistols and fired shots in the air to spread fear among bystanders. Within minutes, they looted a large amount of gold and cash, and fled the scene.
Owner Recounts Terrifying Ordeal
The jewellery shop owner, Nikunja Sahu, said, “After offering prayers, I went to the market for tea. Two women customers were standing there. After I reached the shop, one person entered the shop after me, followed by four others. They showed us pistols and machetes, beat us, and told us to hand over all the jewellery. In just 7 to 8 minutes, they took everything. Shockingly, they seemed to know exactly where the ornaments were kept.”
