Brahmani Tarang Police has arrested as many as eight persons in connection with the case
Beware if you are using dating apps as miscreants may trap you in their evil designs. A similar kind of incident was recently reported from Rourkela.
A youth, who was using a dating app named ‘Grindr’, was allegedly looted at gunpoint in Rourkela. The miscreants looted all the money from the victim and also transferred the money from his account to their accounts by forcefully taking his PhonePe password.
While investigating the incident, Brahmani Tarang Police has arrested as many as eight persons in connection with the case.
As many as seven mobile phones, Rs 9,000 cash, two bikes and a gun have been seized from the possession of the arrested accused.
As per police sources, ‘Grindr’ is a dating app through which one can develop friendships with others online and share phone numbers with each other. However, the members of the gang were looting people in Rourkela by taking advantage of the dating app.
The miscreants were developing friendships with others by using the app and were looting people at gunpoint by calling them to isolated places.
“The dating app is a kind of one-to-one connection app. The victim had given his number in the app to make friends. The miscreants took the number from the app to perpetrate the crime. During our investigation, we came to know from the accused that 10 to 12 incidents like this have already occurred in Rourkela,” said Panposh SDPO Upasana Padhi.
