Dalmia cement factory mishap: Irate locals, relatives of victims barge into plant
Dalmia Cement has been directed to suspend operations at its KP power plant due to safety concerns. The order, issued by the Deputy Director of Factories and Boilers, mandates the shutdown until necessary safety measures are implemented.
This decision follows a tragic incident on January 16, where a collapse of the coal hopper led to the unfortunate death of three workers in Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district.
Abhimanyu Majhi, the Additional District Magistrate, confirmed that the plant would remain closed until all compliance issues are addressed to prevent any further mishaps.
“Deputy Director of Factories and Boilers has already ordered the closure of the plant. Subsequently, a prosecution report will be submitted following an inquiry. An expert team will conduct the inquiry for fact-finding. Necessary actions will be taken against the persons who will be found faulty,” said Majhi.

Authorities have stressed the importance of adhering to stringent safety protocols to safeguard workers and prevent similar incidents. The closure highlights the critical need for industries to maintain high standards of operational safety.
The current situation underscores the responsibility of manufacturing industries to ensure the welfare and safety of their employees. Regulatory bodies and companies must work collaboratively to establish a safe working environment, adhering to all safety norms and regulations.
Notably, the mishap occurred as a coal hopper, used for storing large quantities of coal before it is moved to a boiler, gave way, leading to the workers becoming trapped beneath tons of debris.
