The low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal now lies as well marked Low Pressure, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
The IMD said the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around 30th November, 2023. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours.
In view of the forecast by the IMD, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued warnings for fishermen and requested them to not venture into the sea.
“Under the influence of anticipated cyclonic system, squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over central Bay of Bengal (BoB) and adjoining southwest BoB from December 1, 2023 and is likely to reach 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on December. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough,” the SRC wrote.
Fishermen warning:
SRC warned the fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas of central BoB from the morning of December 1, and whoever out at sea are advised to return to coast by December 1.
The fisheries department have been directed to ensure communication of warning/ alert messages to fishermen. And the F & ARD Dept. have been directed to furnish the status of fishermen and boats plying in the sea and the details of boats & fishermen returned.
The IMD has also issued warnings in association with the Low Pressure Area.
Rainfall Warning: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Nicobar Islands during 29 November to 1 December with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on 29 November.

Wind warning: Andaman Sea and Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Strong wind speed reaching 25-35 kmph gusting to 45 kmph is likely to prevail over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 29 November.
Southeast Bay of Bengal: Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over Southeast Bay of Bengal on 30. November. It is likely to increase becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on 0151 December and Gale Wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph on 02 December.
