Cyclone Dana: Situation normal in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri; it's Lord Jagannath’s blessing, say residents

Even as severe cyclonic storm Dana caused some damage in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore, several other urban areas including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri were spared as no impact was observed here.

The situation is absolutely normal in these urban areas of Odisha even after the completion of the landfall process of cyclone Dana.

Though the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced cloudy weather from Thursday, the intensity of the rain was quite less.

The pilgrim and tourism hub of state, Puri experienced some amount of rainfall under the influence of the severe cyclonic storm. Earlier, the administration had asked tourists to leave the town in the wake of the impending cyclonic storm.

People in several low-lying areas in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri were also evacuated to safer places as well, as part of precautionary measures to ensure zero casualty.

“We had anticipated much damage. Almost all shops in different parts of Cuttack remained yesterday. Today, shops have reopened,” said a resident of Cuttack.

Another resident of Cuttack said, “There were apprehensions in the minds of people in coastal areas. However, no much impact was witnessed in the city due to Lord Jagannath’s grace.”

On Friday, things changed completely in these parts of the state. The people in these cities heaved a huge sigh of relief after no major impact was observed under the influence of the severe cyclonic storm Dana.

A resident of Puri said, “We are now safe due to Lord Jagannath’s blessing. We have experienced Titili, Amphan and other cyclones, but the coastal areas including Puri are completely safe.”
