Cyclone Dana: Odisha govt cancels leaves of all doctors

The Odisha government has cancelled leaves of all the doctors in the State from October 23 to 25 in view of the possible cyclone Dana, informed Health Director Bijay Mohapatra on Tuesday.

As per reports, all the hospitals have been directed to keep anti-snake venoms and medicines for diarrhoea. The hospitals have also been asked to keep 24x7 power back up.

Health teams will be sent to the cyclone affected areas to provide treatment and control rooms will be set up at block and state level to monitor the situation. Shifting of pregnant women from health centers has been started from Monday.

Health Director Bijay Mohapatra further informed that report about the shifting of pregnant women to health centers will be received till this evening.

“Leaves of all doctors and other manpower have been cancelled. Besides, all required drug logistics- from injury to diarrhoea medicines and anti-snake venom will be made available. Necessary arrangements will be made to ensure 24X7 uninterrupted power supply and provision of clean drinking water at the hospitals,” said Mohapatra.

“At the community level, we have to identify the vulnerable areas and offer healthcare facilities. From state-level to block-level, control rooms will be opened. Pregnant women whose expected delivery dates are nearer will be kept at the facilities or ‘Maa Gruha’,” he added.
