Heavy rain triggers flash flood in Balasore
Owing to heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Dana, a flood-like situation has emerged in Balasore district.
The incessant rain has led to flash flood in the Son River. As a result, many areas in Balasore district have reportedly been affected. Many villages under Nilagiri block have been inundated by flood water and cut off from the mainland. More than 1,000 residents of Badia village have been stranded amid flood water.
Meanwhile, road communication from Begunia to Totapada has been snapped as the road connecting both areas has been washed away due to the flash flood. More than 10 villages like Totapada, Sansapala, Dobati, Narasinghpur and Domakandara have been affected by floods.
Budhabalanga River is reportedly in spate due to the heavy rain. According to the Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resource Department CS Padhi, though the flood water in the river is flowing below the danger level, it’s above the warning signal.
“Remuna and Balasore Sadar blocks may be affected in case of flood. However, there is no chance of flooding in the Baitarani River,” said Padhi.
The cyclonic storm has triggered widespread rainfall in Dhamnagar area under Bhadrak district. As a result, Kapali and Reba rivers are in spate and water is flowing above three feet on the Bhadrak-Aradi main road. Road communication has been disrupted along State Highway No.35.
Several low-lying areas have been waterlogged and standing crops in several acres of land have been damaged in the process.
