Cyclone Dana: Around 36 lakh people affected in Odisha, says Minister

As many as 1,671 gram panchayats under 108 blocks across 14 districts and 426 wards in 31 urban areas have been affected across the State due to Cyclone Dana, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Sunday.

According to the Minister, a total of 35,95,000 people in the State have been fully affected by the cyclone.

The Minister further informed that a total of 8,10,896 people were evacuated to safer places during the cyclone and as many as 1,25, 091 houses in the State have suffered full, severe or partial damages.

“Letter has been written to the district administrations to submit detailed reports about the damages to the infrastructure positively before SRC by November 2. If weather permits, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and some other officials will do an aerial survey to assess the damages on Monday. After receiving the final report about the damages, it will be sent to the Centre. A team from the Centre will also visit the State to assess the damages triggered by the severe cyclonic storm,” said Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.

The Minister refused about any kind of casualties in the cyclone. According to Pujari, as many as 28 persons suffered snake bites after the cyclone. However, all of them have been revived now.
