The downpour under the influence of nor’wester on Tuesday has thrown life out of gear in various parts of Cuttack, causing severe waterlogging in low-lying areas.
According to reports, localities such as Friends Colony, Saanta Sahi, and Gamhandia are among the worst affected, with rainwater accumulating on roads and making daily movement difficult for residents.
In Chhatra Bazar, ongoing box drain construction work worsened the situation as rainwater was unable to drain out properly.
Although the rain has stopped for the past 12 hours, waterlogging continues to persist across the city. As a result, residents are experiencing significant inconvenience and are urging civic authorities to take immediate action to resolve the drainage problems, sources said.
Locals Express Displeasure
“Even if there is a short spell of rain, water accumulates in our area causing inconvenience to us,” said a local.
Expressing displeasure over the poor drainage system, another local said, “We were thinking that the water level would go down gradually after the rain. However, it increased to waist-high. We are facing a lot of hardship.”
“The box drain is of no use. We are facing the problem for the last 25 years. We are clueless,” he rued.
Launching a scathing attack on Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Mayor, Subhash Singh, another local said, “The Mayor is just sitting idle in his office and we the common people are suffering.”
