The 33rd General Council meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) witnessed chaos right from the beginning on Wednesday as the Opposition and the ruling party corporators raised serious allegations against Mayor Subhash Chandra Singh.
Corporators alleged that Mayor Singh is not allowing them to carry out development works in their respective wards, which is hampering public services. The uproar led to a noisy and disrupted session, with members from both sides expressing their frustration.
Several corporators accused the Mayor of ignoring their proposals and failing to cooperate in implementing essential ward-level projects. Tensions escalated as members demanded an explanation and immediate redressal.
The Congress corporators alleged that despite being public representative, they are not being informed when the CMC commissioner visits their wards while the BJD corporator form ward number 18 alleged that the mayor is not allowing him to carry out any development works.
“A central school is coming up in ward number 50. While we have been facilitating all things for the school, I was not informed when the CMC commissioner visited the spot. Nothing has changed, bureaucracy is ruling the state,” alleged a Congress corporator.
Similarly, BJP corporator from ward number 34 alleged that the then CMC commissioner Anama Patra sanctioned Rs 500 crore tender on his retirement day, which raised many questions.
Despite the uproar, no official response was received from the Mayor regarding the allegations during or after the meeting.
