In the latest development in the ‘assault and arrest’ of an Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancée at Bharatpur police station, the lady victim during her first interaction with media persons alleged sexual harassment by on-duty police officers inside the police station.
Speaking to the media after a health check-up at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, the fiancée of the army officer said, “I was physically and sexually assaulted by the on-duty police officers including the IIC of Bharatpur.”
Narrating her ordeal with tears rolling down her cheeks, she said, “After closing my restaurant at around 1 am on September 15, I was returning with Gurvansh when some miscreants obstructed and misbehaved with us.”
“Somehow, we managed to escape from them and reached Bharatpur police station to register a complaint in this regard. After reaching the police station, we found a lady constable at the reception wearing a night dress. When we urged her to register the complaint, she started to hurl abuse at us,” she added.
“After some time, a male officer came and forcibly put Gurvansh in the lockup. When I requested the cop to release him saying that you cannot keep an Army officer in custody as it is unlawful, two female officers dragged me by holding my hair and started thrashing me. In between, a lady officer tried to strangle my throat and in self-defence, I bit her hand,” she narrated.
“Later, they tied my hands with my jacket and legs with a scarf of a lady constable. They put me inside a room. Moments later, a male officer sexually assaulted me. At around 6 am, the IIC came and started assaulting me sexually,” she said as tears continued to roll.
